I looked at several other options on the chromebook and things like developer mode, real Linux (via crouton) and Linux (beta) via Chrome Settings are off the table. It can be hard enough to keep the kids focused and using these options will give kids access to things we already block on Chromebooks.

There are few options for Python coding on Chromebooks. It is not as easy as doing it with Windows, or a Mac, but it is doable.
Doing a quick check out the Web, I found 2 options, one is easy, while the other takes more work.
- I installed the Linux beta on my Samsung Chromebook Plus then sudo apt-get install python and it worked, now when i'm in.@penguin i can just type in python3 and python appears to launch. I have already run a simple temperature converter and it works, but I am unsure of how to save text files and open them using the included text app on.
- Pydroid 3 is the most easy to use and powerful educational Python 3 IDE for Android. Features: - Offline Python 3.8 interpreter: no Internet is required to run Python programs.

Use a browser based Python code editor. There are a few out there. I found http://pythonfiddle.com/ and it works pretty well. I don't know if you can run Python gui based programs with it, but you can write lots of Python code and even save it.
Option #2:
Install Python on your Chromebook. This will require more work but I imagine, you have much more flexibility since you can run the Python code directly on the Chromebook. Here is an article that will give you the step-by-step:
