I read that canon has restricted the ability to view shutter count on newer rebels a while back. Are there any newer software that overcame canon's restriction?

I think someone on here posted this a while back...the Astro Photography Tool has a shutter count as part of the program.
I tried it and it works with the 6D. You might give it a go and see if it works with your T6i.

If you have a Mac there is an app called EOS Inspector that can read shutter count on EOS 750D/T6i/X8i as well as 65 other supported camera models. EOS Inspector is my product, I am a sole developer behind it. I hope you don't mind that it is offered on the Mac App Store for a price of $2.99.
